You've probably seen a folding glass doors price advertised as a single number, maybe "from $X per panel." That number rarely survives contact with a real opening. A 3-panel door on a 9 ft opening and a 4-panel door on a 16 ft opening are different products, and they're priced differently. This page explains how a quote is actually built, what pushes the number up or down, and what a buyer should send to get an accurate figure.
What Folding Glass Doors Actually Cost: Price Ranges by Size and Configuration
We don't publish price ranges because a folding door is made to your opening, not pulled from a shelf. What we can tell you is how the number scales. A 2-panel exterior folding door set costs less than a 3-panel set, which costs less than a 4-panel set, and the difference isn't linear. Each additional panel adds a hinge set, a roller carriage, a lock point and a frame section. The hardware bill grows faster than the glass bill.
Opening width matters more than anything else. A wider opening needs more panels to keep each sash within a workable width, and more panels mean more of everything. Height matters too, but less. A taller door adds glass area and profile length without adding hinge sets.
Why does a factory-direct price differ from a dealer or big-box price for the same specification? Three reasons. First, the dealer adds margin. Second, the dealer carries inventory and showroom costs. Third, the dealer may quote a stock size and modify it, while a factory quotes the exact opening. What Drives the Price of Bi Fold Exterior Patio Doors
Five things move the number. Profile, glass, hardware, finish and size. Size we covered. Here's the rest.
Profile thickness and thermal break
Aluminium profile wall thickness is the first cost driver. A 2.0 mm profile costs more than a 1.5 mm profile, and it performs differently under wind load and over time. Thermal break construction adds a polyamide or polyurethane bridge between the inner and outer aluminium, which costs more than a solid profile but cuts heat transfer. On bi fold exterior patio doors, the thermal break is usually the difference between a door that meets energy codes and one that doesn't.
Glass build-up
Double glazing is the baseline. Triple glazing adds a third pane, a second spacer and more weight, which means heavier hardware. Low-E coatings, tempered glass and laminated glass each add cost. The 88 series folding door uses 5+27A+5 tempered insulated glass. The 75 series uses 5+27Ar+5 tempered glass with argon fill. If you need laminated glass for impact resistance or security, that's a separate line item.
Hardware
Kinlong hardware is standard on our folding doors. HOPPE, CMECH, VBH and G-U are available as upgrades. The difference shows up in the handle feel, the lock smoothness and the roller life. On a large door, hardware is not the place to save money. A cheap roller on a 400 KG bottom sliding system is a callback waiting to happen.
Finish and colour
Powder coating is standard. Standard colours cost less than custom matches. Matte black is popular and usually available as a standard option. If you need a specific RAL colour or a wood grain transfer, expect a premium and a longer lead time.

Folding Sliding Glass Doors vs Sliding Doors: Comparing Cost on the Same Opening
Folding doors carry more hardware than sliders. That's the whole story. A slider has two or three panels on a track, a few rollers and a latch. A folding door has hinges between every panel, a top guide and a bottom roller carriage for each panel, plus a multi-point lock. More parts, more assembly time, higher unit cost.
What does the extra money buy? A full-width clear opening. A slider gives you half the opening, or two-thirds on a three-panel slider. A folding door stacks the panels to one side and gives you the whole width. On a 16 ft opening, that's the difference between a 8 ft pass-through and a 16 ft one. For a restaurant patio, a pool deck or a living room that opens to a garden, that matters more than the frame colour.
To compare two quotes fairly, compare them on the same rough opening. Ask each supplier for the panel count, the glass build, the hardware brand and the finish. If one quote is for a 3-panel slider and the other is for a 4-panel folding door, you're not comparing prices. You're comparing products. Specifications That Set the Price: 88 Series and 75 Series Folding Doors
Two series anchor our folding door range. The 88 series is the heavier option. It uses a 2.0 mm profile with 2.2 mm local reinforcement, sash widths from 500-900 mm, heights from 1900-3000 mm, and 5+27A+5 tempered insulated glass. The 88 series aluminium folding door is covered by ENERGY STAR.
The 75 series insulated folding door is a different animal. It uses a 2.0 mm aluminium profile with matte black powder coating, 5+27Ar+5 tempered glass, Uw 3.5 and Rw 25 dB. It's a lighter door for milder climates and smaller openings.
Both series share the same bottom sliding system, which can bear up to 400 KG. That rating matters on wide openings with heavy glass. It's also why we don't recommend cheaping out on rollers.

What Is Not Included in a Folding Glass Door Price
A door price is not a delivered, installed price. Here's what sits outside the number on your quote.
- Installation. We supply an installation manual, video tutorial and remote technical support after the goods arrive. We don't include installation in the door price.
- Screens. Insect screens and security screens are quoted separately.
- Hardware upgrades. If you want HOPPE instead of Kinlong, that's a line item.
- Non-standard finishes. Custom colours and wood grain transfers are extras.
- Packing. Wooden box and wooden frame packing is quoted as a separate line.
- Freight, duty and port charges. These sit outside the door price. Trade terms are EXW, FOB or CIF, and each one shifts who pays what.
Payment is by bank transfer or T/T. If you're comparing quotes from two suppliers, check which trade term each one is using. An EXW quote and a CIF quote for the same door can differ by more than the door itself.
How to Get an Accurate Folding Porch Door Quote
Measure the rough opening at three points, top, middle and bottom, and take the smallest figure. Do the same for width, left, centre and right. Send us that number, not the finished size you want. We build to the opening.
Then send the rest. Opening width and height. Panel count, or let us recommend one. Material, aluminium or aluminium-clad wood. Glass build-up. Colour. Hardware preference. Any site constraints, like a corner return or a low header.
Custom sizes are produced to the opening. We don't hold stock. The minimum order is 2 square metres. Production usually takes 25-30 business days depending on design, materials and order volume. Quotes are returned within about 3 hours of receiving project details.

Are Folding Glass Doors Worth the Price?
Sometimes yes, sometimes no. A folding door earns its cost when you need a full-width opening and you'll actually use it. A restaurant that opens its patio every day, a house with a pool deck, a living room that becomes part of the garden in summer. In those cases the extra hardware pays for itself in how the space works.
Where folding doors make less sense: a small opening, a wall where the stacked panels would block a walkway, or a climate where the door stays closed most of the year. In those cases a sliding door or a lift-and-slide door is the better buy. A buyer who opens the door twice a month won't get the value out of the hinge sets.
Long-term, aluminium holds up. It doesn't rot, warp or need repainting. Multi-point locking and insulated glass are standard on our folding doors, not upgrades. Warranty depends on the specific product and contract terms. That's the honest answer.
